FK Fic Fest 2026

fkficfest is on for 2026! As usual, we're playing challenge-style, minimum 500 words, minimum 51% FK for crossovers, 2 months to write, etc. But we're experimenting with a new prompting scheme: every FKFicFest community member may submit one (1) prompt, anonymously, for writers to use, combine, or ignore as they please. No claiming (multiple people may use the same prompt). And no reveals (the prompts stay anonymous).

Schedule:

May 3-16: Prompts nominated (one per person)
May 17 (Sunday): Prompts finalized and posted
July 18 (Saturday): Stories due in queue on AO3
July 20 (Monday): Stories begin releasing

About prompts:

Definition: For our game, a prompt is a word, set of words, phrase, sentence, question, stanza, lyric, canon reference, etc. meant to inspire an FK story.
Success: We'll likely get the most from prompts that can flex across different interpretations, while also being specific enough to spark reactions.
Limits: One (1) nomination per community member (any Dreamwidth account may join the community). 1-30 words. If a prompt is a quotation, include a citation (not part of the word count). No exact re-run prompts from previous years, but paraphrases of unused past nominations (yours or others) are fine. And, of course, please, no vulgarity, incivility, that kind of thing.

Questions? Advice? Please share! Again, every community member may submit one (1) anonymous prompt this year; prompting is not a pledge to write or read. Thank you very much for your generous support of this community and for sharing in our enjoyment of Forever Knight!

FK Fic Fest 2026

May 5 will be the 34^th anniversary of "Dark Knight," Forever Knight's series premiere. May 18 will be the 30^th anniversary of "Last Knight," its finale. And 2026 will be our 17^th fkficfest!

Most things will be the same as last year: challenge-style, minimum 500 words, minimum 51% FK for crossovers, ~2 months to write, etc. Dates, cadence, and nominations style have questions below.

This poll is for community members. (Join us!) The poll will close at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time) on Friday, February 27, 2026 (or, really, the next morning). Thanks!

FK Fic Fest 2025

fkficfest | FKFicFest A03 Collection

We're on the verge of stories! 12 new Forever Knight fanfiction tales by 10 authors are coming our way!

Lengths range from ~900 to ~11K words. We'll see procedurals, humor, songfic, episode aftermaths, and more. Tagged characters include Nick, Natalie, Lacroix, Schanke, and Janette; Stonetree, Cohen, and Reese; Tracy, Grace, and Feliks.

Stories begin releasing tomorrow, Monday, 5/26. We'll have one per day until the final "Index List" ("Closing Ceremonies") post on Saturday, 6/07. I plan to release each morning before work (Pacific Time).

Please read as many as appeal. And please be generous with your comments, kudos, and recommendations! The future of FK fanfic depends on kind interactions with authors.

Tip: When your story releases, I recommend updating its posting date from when you loaded it to when I released it. This lifts your story on the AO3 "recent" lists to reach more readers.

Countdown: FKFicFest '25 stories come due tomorrow

Yep, tomorrow, Saturday, May 24 is the FKFicFest '25 due date. Reveals start Monday, May 26, and continue at a rate of one or two per day, as long as they last. For all the info, see our gameplay post.

The official deadline is 11:59pm Saturday (Pacific Time). Those who've played before know that I won't "lock" the collection until Sunday noon (Pacific Time). Still, it helps if everyone who plans to load a story does so on Saturday. Then I can confidently spend Sunday checking that the stories loaded as intended and building our release schedule (for example, lining up the stories to vary in length, rating, characters, etc.). You can continue editing on the AO3 until stories release!

Sometime this week, give or take syndication schedules, is the 29^th anniversary of the first airing of "Last Knight," the Forever Knight finale. (I usually count it as May 18, but it could have been any time that week in each local market.)

How odd and amazing that we're still here, enjoying FK and appreciating each other.

Stories — 500 words minimum, challenge-style — come due on Saturday, May 24 in our AO3 queue (unless you've arranged in advance to post to our Dreamwidth queue instead, which no one has). Stories start releasing on Monday, May 26 (US Memorial Day).

As always, we can edit on the AO3 while stories are in the queue (though not on DW). We load the queue before we start releasing because I need to know what stories we'll have in order to schedule our releases by length, rating, characters, etc., to help maximize reading and commenting fun for everyone!

If you're seeking a beta reader, or to volunteer beta-reading, try our beta-reading post (or post on your own journal!). And please excuse the reminder, but, again, if you choose, as a proofreading/editing tool, you may use genAI, like Google Gemini or ChatGPT, just like you'd use any spellchecker or grammar-checker tool, with a keen eye to your own intentions and voice; please do not let genAI write a single sentence for you. No one wants to read genAI. We want to read you!
