We're playing challenge-style! We'll nominate and elect 3 prompts (maximum 20 words) to share. Each story (minimum 500 words) must use at least one elected prompt.
About prompts
What is a prompt? For us, a prompt will be a word, phrase, sentence, stanza, etc. meant to inspire an FK story. Readers should be able to recognize the prompt's influence in the story in some way. (A prompt may of course be taken literally or figuratively, lightly or deeply, straightforwardly or in reverse.)
What makes a good prompt? We'll likely get the most from prompts that are flexible across different interpretations of FK, while also specific enough to start get the gears of imagination turning.
Are there any limits on the prompts? Our prompts will be 1-20 words. If a prompt is a quotation, please include a citation so that folks will know (doesn't factor in the word count). If prompts are too similar, we'll try to merge them. Yes, you may re-nominate prompts from past games if you like. And, of course, please, no vulgarity, incivility, that kind of thing.
Who can nominate prompts? Any member of the FKFicFest community on Dreamwidth can share prompts. Anyone can choose to join the community at any time.
How to nominate & vote
Step 1. February 14 - February 21: Nominate:
Reply to this post with up to 3 prompts you nominate. (You can reply once with all of your prompts, or separately per prompt.)
Step 2. February 21 - February 28: Streamline our ballot:
On a poll to be posted by the mod, vote for up to 2 of all the nominated prompts. Every prompt earning at least one vote moves on to the final ballot.
Step 3. February 28 - March 7: Pick our winners: On a poll to be posted by the mod, rank your first, second, and third prompt choices. Our 3 nominees this year will be: (a) the prompt with the most first-place votes, (b) the next remaining prompt with the most total votes of any kind, and (c) the next remaining prompt with the most points, where a first-place vote gives 3 points, second 2, and third 1.
Our chosen prompts will be announced no later than March 14 (and probably sooner!). Stories will come due on May 15. They'll start releasing on May 17 — the week of the 25th anniversary of the first airing of "Last Knight" — and continue one per day as long as they last.
